Exploring

Exploring new places in Minecraft can be very difficult because often times(unless you play on a PC/Mac), you get completely lost and don’t know how to get back home! The below list is different ways that you can go exploring to, say, find a village or a mineshaft. This list should cover things like those.

  • Bring blocks like fences or wall blocks so that you can mark your way every 10 or so blocks.
  • Bring enough obsidian to build a Nether portal to quickly find your way back because the Nether has an equivalent of about 3 blocks in the Overworld being 1 block in the Nether.
  • If you are on Minecraft:Java Edition, you can name a banner, and right-click it with your map to create a waypoint. Position multiple around your world to find your way with your map.

This video is from DanTDM on his Hardcore Survival World, where he made a banner and used it as a waypoint to places.

  • ALWAYS BRING A MAP!!!
  • Use the chat option when you have ‘Show Coordinates’ on in your world so you can tell your friends where to go and vice versa.

The Cartography Table, a WONDERFUL block added in the Minecraft 1.14 ‘Village and Pillage’ Update. It allows you to copy maps, expand them, and even rename them.
